and his Ghana side were defeated 2-0 by Cameroon in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations on Thursday evening.
The Leicester City midfielder notched up another 90 minutes out in Gabon, but couldn’t prevent his nation from slipping to defeat against a well-organised and clinical Cameroon side.
Following an even first period, Ghana came out fighting after the break, but failed to capitalise on their early second-half dominance and conceded on 72 minutes, when Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui converted at the far post.
Avram Grant’s side pushed forward for a late equaliser, before being caught out at the back, conceding a second goal in injury time as Christian Bassogog rounded off a swift counter attack.
While Cameroon now advance to the final of the competition to face Egypt on Sunday, Amartey’s Ghana will take on Burkina Faso in a third-place play-off on Saturday evening.
