With the help of Leicester City’s , Ghana booked their spot in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations with a 2-1 victory over DR Congo on Sunday afternoon.
Amartey played 90 minutes in a central defensive role at the Stade d'Oyem in Gabon, as goals from brothers Jordan Ayew and Andre Ayew sealed the win for the Black Stars.
It was not straight forward for Avram Grant’s men, who after taking the lead were pegged back by a brilliant effort from Congo attacker Paul-Jose M'Poku.
But Ghana found a winner from the spot with just 12 minutes to play, sealing a AFCON Semi-Final tie at Stade De Franceville with four-time tournament winners Cameroon, who beat a strong Senegal side on penalties in the last-eight on Saturday.
Amartey has featured in all four of his nation’s AFCON fixtures and will again hope to be involved against Cameroon on Thursday 2 February. Should Ghana progress, they would face either Burkina Faso, Egypt or Morocco in the final.
