_- Leicester City face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday_- The Foxes are searching for their first victory of the 2022/23 season- Harvey Barnes previewed the 5:30pm kick-off with LCFC TV this week- He spoke of the determination within the squad to turns things around
The trip to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, a 5:30pm kick-off, is Leicester City’s seventh fixture of the Premier League season, but the Foxes remain without a league win ahead of visiting the capital.
While acknowledging that their early season struggles have been far from ideal, recapturing the performance level required to put points on the board in the top-flight is a determination shared within the group, Barnes revealed.
“It will be a tough game, we know they are good side,” the 24-year-old admitted to LCFC TV this week. “But for us, it’s a chance to get that first result of the season and turn our season around from what’s obviously been disappointing for us so far.
“It’s a good opportunity and hopefully one we can take. It’s difficult when you’re in this little spell which is not quite going right for us. We’re doing some things well in games and then other things, which have not normally been a problem, are letting us down.
“The lads are desperate to get that first win and as soon as that comes, you’ll see a completely different confidence in the side and I’m sure the results will start coming.
“We’ve had spells like this before and we’ve come through it, but at the beginning of the season, it just adds that little bit of pressure to get that first win when we haven’t got a win on the board. Teams go through these runs and we’ll definitely come back stronger.”
The postponement of last weekend’s match against Aston Villa led to further preparation time prior to heading to north London. The ability within the squad is unquestioned and the winger is confident that a result will arrive sooner rather than later.
Former West Bromwich Albion loanee Barnes explained: “It gives you that extra little period to set up for this weekend’s game. For us, we’ve always had a good group here with a good spirit.
“The extra week won’t have changed that but for us it’s all about the full focus for Spurs and hopefully that’s the kickstart for us. They’ve obviously got a lot of quality players. The manager has them set up well as a team and they are well structured so they are difficult to break down at times.
“But for us, we’ve got a lot of quality within our team as well and if we approach the game well and set up right, there’s no reason why we can't come away with a really good result. We’re really positive.”
The Academy graduate opened his tally for the new campaign against Chelsea at the end of August, but the visit to Stamford Bridge ended in defeat for City, with the away side unable to find a crucial second goal. Putting away more chances is a clear aim as the season progresses.
He added: “Of course, I was pleased with the goal, but there’s plenty more to add. And probably more disappointed afterwards that we didn’t have as many good opportunities or more real chances in the game to level it up. We were disappointed with the goals we conceded.
“Even though we have been conceding goals this season, our chances created in games and the football we are used to playing has not quite been there and that final product in the final third has been lacking a little bit.
“For myself and the rest of the attacking players, we know we need to help the team out as much as we can by scoring goals and creating chances.”
