- Demarai Gray says Leicester City’s battling display against Derby County will stand them in good stead ahead of their Premier League trip to Swansea
- The winger was delighted with the way his team-mates acquitted themselves against the Rams
- Gray rounded off the scoring in the 3-1 Emirates FA Cup extra-time win over Steve McClaren’s side on Wednesday
credited his team-mates for their brilliant work ethic following Wednesday’s over Derby County in the Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round.
The Foxes looked good value for their lead when Andy King nodded home immediately after the break, only to be pegged back when Abdoul Camara’s deflected free kick beat Ron-Robert Zieler.
That forced the tie to extra-time, but City maintained their tempo and excellent efforts from Wilfred Ndidi and Gray sealed the Foxes .
, Gray said: “They obviously got a slice of luck with the deflected free kick, which we didn’t want at that time because we were in control, but that’s what happens with a cup game sometimes.
“The boss made some changes and switched things around and we managed to get the early goal in the first half of added time and then luckily I finished it off in the second half of extra-time.
“It’s a positive that we’ve got players like that on the bench so that the game can go like it has done today. They made an impact and Wilf’s (Wilfred Ndidi) goal was brilliant.
“Since he’s come in, he’s been class and he’s added something to the team which we might have needed.
“Everything paid off today and everyone worked hard and got it right. It’ll give us a confidence boost going into Sunday’s game.”
Gray bagged his second goal of the season with a superb solo strike which he felt came at just the right time, making it 3-1 with six minutes to play to halt any form of Derby comeback.
He added: “Yes of course [I’m pleased], especially at the time of the game because it took all the pressure off us and killed the game.
“It’s nice to score because that’s what I want to do. When I’m playing I want to be positive by making an impact and working hard for the team. Luckily today I got a goal.”
