_- LCFC Women face Manchester City in the Continental Tyres League Cup this Saturday_- The group stage match will be hosted at Pirelli Stadium- Manager Willie Kirk assessed his squad's fitness levels ahead of the match- He confirmed the squad are in a good place as only long-term injuries remain as it stands
As temperatures drop well below freezing across the country, the Foxes will be hoping that this weekend's Continental Tyres League Cup match against Man City will go ahead, having already had their last two fixtures postponed - both away games against Sunderland and Liverpool respectively. The impact the cold weather has had on recent games means that Leicester haven't been in action since they were on the receiving end of an 8-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea at King Power Stadium at the start of the month. Therefore, Saturday offers one last opportunity this calendar year for the Foxes to produce an improved performance, in an attempt to pick up their second win of the season in the cup competition, and give themselves the chance of qualifying from Group B, in order to reach the knockout stage. Ahead of facing the Manchester club, Kirk provided an injury update at Belvoir Drive, with some positive news on a trio of players.
The Scot commented to LCFC TV on Thursday: “We’ve got Ashleigh Plumptre and Josie Green out, but we knew that would be the case until the turn of the year, and hopefully they come back soon after. “Abbie McManus, Erin Simon and Shannon O'Brien are all back after their spells out with concussion which is positive. As it stands, that is it, so apart from the longer-term ones, we’re in a good space.”
