- Hamza Choudhury made his Premier League debut for Leicester City against Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday- The midfielder says he will work hard in the hope of notching up more first team appearances this season- The Foxes won 2-1 thanks to goals from Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez
A product of the Academy, the combative central midfielder made his first senior appearance during the Carabao Cup triumph over Liverpool in September, replacing Wilfred Ndidi for the final six minutes at King Power Stadium. It proved to be an even prouder moment for Choudhury on Tuesday, though, as he emerged from the bench late on to help the Foxes protect their slender one-goal lead. “It’s a dream come true, really,” reflected Choudhury to LCFC TV. “I can’t really put it into words right now, but I think it’ll sink in over the next couple of weeks what’s really happened tonight. “Hopefully I’ll get a few more appearances this season. Most importantly, it was a good result for us.
“I was really proud to even make the bench, so when the gaffer told me to get ready, I was in shock.
“I still watch a lot of football and Tottenham have some top, top quality players. Sharing the pitch with them is an amazing feeling. I’ve just got to keep my feet on the ground and keep working hard to try and push for a place in the team.
“It gives you extra motivation in the games and in training when the gaffer comes to watch and he’s shown tonight that he’s not scared to put the young lads on and he knows that they can perform on the big stage.”
The 20-year-old trained with the first team squad in the lead up to the game and while nerves started to set in after being told to warm up by Claude Puel, it was a thoroughly enjoyable moment.
He added: “I was told last Thursday that I was going to be with the first team and we trained as usual. The gaffer and Stowelly [Mike Stowell] came in and told me I was in the squad. I just came in and hoped to make an appearance.
“As soon as you step over the white line and starting running, the nerves go away. I just concentrated on the game.”
