Leicester travel to meet Manchester City at Academy Stadium in a 7pm kick-off as the 2020/21 Women's FA Cup, delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, resumes.
Both sides were defeated in the league programme at the weekend and will be looking to bounce back from losses to West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur respectively. Find out everything you need to know about the cup fixture below... The Foxes camp
Leicester defeated Liverpool (1-0) and Manchester United (3-2) last season to reach the last eight stage, with Hannah Cain scoring the only goal in the fourth round, before also striking against United, alongside goals from Shannon O'Brien and Natasha Flint, to set up the trip to face Man City. It's yet another quick turnaround for the Foxes this week, with Tottenham Hotspur next up in the Barclays FA Women's Super League on Sunday, with tickets for the 2pm kick-off at King Power Stadium available HERE. Talking points
Speaking in Monday’s pre-match presser, manager Jonathan Morgan said: “They’re not in form themselves at the minute but we’re going to take it as any other game, work hard and if we can get a positive result, use it as a platform to springboard into Spurs on Sunday.”
Forward Jess Sigsworth commented: “I think the FA Cup is a brilliant cup and there’s nothing better than playing in it with a semi-final at stake. We’re really looking forward to going to Man City. We’re going with no fear.” The opposition
While Man City have not got off to the start they would have wanted in the league campaign, winning just one of their three fixtures, and being knocked out of the UEFA Women’s Champions League at the second round stage by Real Madrid, they will be eager to retain the Women’s FA Cup.
Taking over from Nick Cushing in May 2020, manager Gareth Taylor won his first trophy as manager six months later, lifting the prestigious trophy after a 3-1 victory over Everton in the final at Wembley Stadium.
The Citizens narrowly missed out on the WSL title last season, however, finishing two points behind Chelsea.
Ones to watch
While she is yet to get off the mark in the WSL this term, England international forward Ellen White is an imposing presence for any defensive line and likely to pose significant problems should she play a part. She is third in her country’s all-time top goalscorer list with 43, three behind Kelly Smith.
The versatile Georgia Stanway is one of England’s most promising young players and at 22 she still has her peak years ahead. Currently filling in at right-back due to injuries, Gareth Taylor will be keen to move the talented youngster, who won the PFA Young Player of the Year in 2019, further forward.
Attacking midfielder Caroline Weir has scored some spectacular goals for Man City since arriving at the club from Liverpool in 2018, including a FIFA Puskas Award nomination for her strike against Manchester United in 2020. The Scotland international is a key player in their system, scoring eight league goals and providing three assists in the WSL last term.
