says Leicester City have only one objective when they on Tuesday evening – to beat Sean Dyche’s Burnley.
While the Clarets have a strong home record in the Premier League having lost just three times, Mendy emphasised that the Foxes will not be satisfied with anything less than a victory in Lancashire.
Should they earn three points, it would be their first league win away from home this term – for Mendy, that is further motivation for his side.
“We feel good,” the Frenchman told LCFC TV. “It’s very important to go to Burnley and be concentrated because we want to win there. We don’t want to draw, we want to win. It’s important for the table.
“We will play against a very strong and very compact team. I know at home, they have won a lot of games, so that’s good for them. If we win, it’s good for our mentality ahead of the next game.
“We are concentrated on Burnley because it’s the next game and it’s very important for us. If you lose, it’s a bad situation, but we are strong and we have a big motivation to beat Burnley.”
Claudio Ranieri’s men head into the game having battled to a at Derby County on Friday evening and Mendy is hoping his side can now build on a performance which yielded plenty of goalscoring opportunities.
The midfielder continued: “It was very positive because we didn’t lose and it was a good reaction from the team. We were losing 2-1, but managed to get it to 2-2.
“The system that we played isn’t the most important thing, it’s the concentration of the players. It’s true, 4-4-2, the team looks more comfortable, but if the coach changes the system, staying concentrated will be important.”
Friday marked the return of Riyad Mahrez, who made his first appearance since concluding his Africa Cup of Nations involvement with Algeria, while Islam Slimani continues his recovery from a minor groin problem.
“It’s important for the team because we know Islam [Slimani] and Riyad [Mahrez] are very important players for us,” said Mendy of the Algerian duo’s return.
“They are very decisive and it’s important for the mentality of all the players that they have come back from the Africa Cup.”
Meanwhile, Mendy expressed his delight at Daniel Amartey’s progress in the tournament, as the midfielder on Sunday .
Mendy added: “I’m very happy for him because he is a good guy and a good player. It’s important for him because it’s his national team and everyone knows that the Africa Cup of Nations is very important to win.”
