- The Leicester City Under-23s have missed out on progression in the Premier League International Cup- City suffered a 2-0 defeat at Sunderland on Tuesday evening to leave their hopes in the balance- Tottenham Hotspur's 3-3 draw with Benfica on Thursday confirms their exit- The Foxes remain in with a chance of success in Premier League 2 and the Premier League Cup
Following a 2-0 defeat by Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday evening, City’s fate was sealed by Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-3 draw with Benfica on Thursday afternoon. That reverse at Sunderland denied the Foxes top spot in Group B. With only two best-placed runners-up qualifying for the Quarter-Finals, it is Spurs, who also finished with four points in Group F, who overtake them in contention with a superior goal difference of +3.
The north London club must now await the result from Bayern Munich’s clash against FC Porto on Friday to discover if they will join Newcastle United as the other best-placed runner-up.
For City’s Under-23s, attention turns to the Premier League 2 title race with them sitting one point behind leaders Liverpool, although the Merseyside outfit have a game in hand.
Another opportunity for silverware also remains in the Premier League Cup with the Foxes currently sitting top of Group F by a margin of four points.
On Monday, Manchester City visit Holmes Park in Premier League 2, a clash the Blue Army can watch for free on LCFC TV from 6:45pm.
