Trevor Peake says the experience gained by the Leicester City Under-19s at the Mercedes-Benz Junior Cup can only be a positive after they won both matches on the final day in Germany.
The young Foxes, many of whom were getting their first shot of playing abroad, acquitted themselves well in unfamiliar surroundings to pick up victories against South Korea and Schalke at the Glaspalast Sindelfingen.
After losing three and winning one of their opening day fixtures, a 3-1 success against Rosenborg, Peake admits it was nice to get back to winning ways in Stuttgart, saying his younger players will learn from their experiences.
In his post-tournament interview with LCFC TV, Peake said: “It was much better today. We’ve learnt a lot and we’ve spoken in the dressing room between games to try and pick things up as quickly as we could because it is a different format.
“That brings different requirements but the two wins today were very positive. It is one of those tournaments that are different and we haven’t played in anything like this.
“The format surprised us a little bit. Our finishing position is fifth, half-way, and we won three and lost three games over the two day period.”
City shot-stopper Cameron Yates received the Goalkeeper of the Tournament award on Saturday evening while Cal Templeton was among the highest goal-scorers with five to his name over the course of the two days.
Peake acknowledged their progress in Germany before claiming their success comes down to a blend of careful planning and hard work.
He added: “To have an accolade for Cam is great. He made some great saves but also his distribution catches the eye as a goalkeeper.
“It proves how important hard work and organisation are. We were much better at getting back into our shape today.
"Ability is great but, in a competition like this, it comes in short doses so hard-working performers who love to put the Leicester shirt on are important too.”
