The Finnish forward signed for the Club this summer, and scored twice on her debut, against newly-promoted Bristol City, showing the skillset that she can bring to the East Midlands.
In Friday’s press conference at Belvoir Drive, the No.8 explained what life has been like under the management of Willie Kirk, and how she has been settling into the team.
“The feeling is good at the moment, we’re really confident and working hard every day in training,” Rantala stated. “There’s a good vibe around the training ground and changing room, so we just want to keep that going.
“I think Willie [Kirk] has got quite a clear idea of playing and I think it suits me well. He sees my position in the no. 10, and I like playing that position; it’s a good role for me. The Manager has made us feel really confident. He believes in us, and wants us to play proper football, so we’re all enjoying it.
“My ambition is to help the team win and play well. We want to be in the top half this season, so I want to do everything I can to help the team achieve that. I want to be a permanent starting player and improve my abilities.”
Having introduced herself into English football in impressive fashion, the City player admitted a move to the UK wasn’t always planned, but when interest came from Leicester, she knew it would be a good opportunity.
She goes on to examine the upcoming WSL fixture against Liverpool, and even though the Foxes have already faced, and beaten, the Merseyside outfit once already this season, Rantala knows the difficulty of Sunday’s task.
“The idea of coming to the UK came later on,” the 23-year-old continued. “I always dreamed about playing in Sweden, Spain or Italy, but once the opportunity came about, I knew I had to take it.
“I’ve been enjoying the WSL – every game is against a tough opponent, so it’s good to be here and developing my skillset at Leicester. I really enjoy having good players around me, it makes my game easier.
“It’s going to be a tough game this weekend. Both teams like to press so it will be a good fight, but as I said, we feel confident, and I’m excited for the challenge.”
