- Lewis Brunt speaks prior to Leicester City’s Emirates FA Cup trip to Walsall- Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off (12:30pm GMT) is a fourth-round tie- The young defender is hoping to be involved against the League 2 opposition- He helped the Foxes see off Gillingham in the previous round of the cup
Brunt has enjoyed his fair share of game time with the Development Squad once again this term, featuring 10 times, while also being involved in a number of first team matchday squads over the course of the season to date.
Able to train and play alongside many international stars, the 22-year-old believes that this experience can only raise and enhance his own game, as he looks to establish himself.
“I've said to many people that this last two to three months has probably been the most enjoyable,” City's No.34 revealed to LCFC TV on Thursday, ahead of facing the Saddlers. “Being in and around the first team squad every day, travelling to pretty much every game.
“It's been a massive learning from just being around it. It's been really positive. Training every day around the first team, I've learned so much, even if it's just little information here and there from what they said.
“There's top professionals in the squad, so it's been an unbelievable learning experience for me, I've thoroughly enjoyed it.”
This competition also provided his first senior start of the season, in the XI for the 1-0 away win over Gillingham at Priestfield Stadium, helping City to keep a clean sheet and progress into the next round.
“It's definitely a tough test when you go to lower league opposition," the centre-back commented. "It's always going to be tough because you're dealing with not only the opposition but the conditions off the pitch that you wouldn't normally face in the Premier League.
“There are tough pictures, tough conditions, the weather. There's a lot of things that go into it. But I really enjoyed it.”
Now up against another Sky Bet League 2 opponent, the versatile defender is all too aware of the challenges that Leicester will be likely to face when arriving at Bescot Stadium this weekend, with a sell-out crowd and lively atmosphere expected.
The ex-Aston Villa academy star continued: “These lower league oppositions, they really give it a good go and I'm expecting another tough test. But it's one that we're confidence we can go away and win.
“Any lower league team, no matter how often they’ve played, they’re always trying to prove a point against Premier League oppositions, so they'll be looking to win like we will. So, it should be a really good game.
“I know a couple of the players and a few of the fans that support the club, being local-ish to that area, so I'm definitely expecting a tough test, but it's one that we'll enjoy and look to go and win.”
A place in the fifth round is at stake and given the Club’s history in the prestigious tournament in recent seasons, the youngster revealed there is that hunger and desire within the group to chase more silverware.
“This Club's had great success in the FA Cup competition and another domestic cup,” he added. “It's a competition that we're looking to go and win. We're not going into any game holding back. We're going to push on and try and win silverware.”
