- Brendan Rodgers discusses Leicester City’s recovery and preparation plan for the next few weeks- The Foxes beat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1 in the Premier League on Saturday night- Goals from Kelechi Iheanacho and Daniel Amartey secured all three points for the visiting side
The Foxes won 2-1 at AMEX Stadium against Brighton & Hove Albion thanks to goals from Kelechi Iheanacho and Daniel Amartey, registering their 10th Premier League away win of 2020/21.
After a gruelling winter fixture schedule, City will now play just two more matches this month and Rodgers explained what he will do with the additional time he has with the players on the training pitch.
“It’s a massive credit to the players and how focused they are and how hard they’ve worked,” he reflected to LCFC TV.
“We can review it now with 10 games to go, and as I said, we still have a lot of work to do.
“The next couple of weeks, we can get some good coaching work into the players and work from there.”
Although naturally disappointed not to have advanced further in the UEFA Europa League, Rodgers says his side will benefit from concentrating on domestic football from now until the end of the season.
City have 10 Premier League matches to play over the next three months, and will also contest their Emirates FA Cup Quarter-Final tie with Manchester United on Sunday 21 March (5pm kick-off) at King Power Stadium.
“[We’ll have] bit of time to recover,” the manager added. “If we were playing Thursday night, as much as we would have loved to been in that competition, it’s only good for us if we have the whole squad available.
“Otherwise, you can end up losing out on every competition that you’re in just with the nature of injuries that we have. Unfortunately, we had to prioritise, it didn’t quite go for us against Slavia, but it’s an experience that will help us.
“Now, we’ve got two competitions to concentrate on – finish as high as we can in the league and the quarter-finals of a cup.
“Tonight was very important, and also it demonstrates to the players that when we’re at our level and at the level that we want to be, we can play very good football.”
