- Brendan Rodgers reflects on Leicester City’s 1-1 Premier League draw at 10-man Arsenal- Jamie Vardy and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were on target for their respective sides- Rodgers was pleased with the impact of his substitutes at Emirates Stadium- Demarai Gray came off the bench to assist Vardy’s equalising goal
The Northern Irishman spoke of his pride for his stars after the Foxes secured a 1-1 draw against 10-man Arsenal at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night. Jamie Vardy replied to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s opener following Eddie Nketiah’s dismissal to claim City’s 59th point of the season. The No.9’s 22nd goal of the Premier League campaign was set up by substitute Demarai Gray, who had only been on the pitch for nine minutes. “All the substitutes, I think that they’re fighting so hard,” Rodgers said. “If you look at the players that were out for tonight’s game. We’ve got a really strong spirit in our squad.
“Like you say, Fuchsy (Christian Fuchs) came in and played with quality. Demarai, like you say, came in and he’s bright, he can bring that into the game, and Harvey [Barnes] looked a threat as well. “It’s what they need to do. You work hard and it’s normally about the 11 that finish the game, as opposed to the 11 that start. I thought the guys came in and made a really good impact.”
Rodgers was also pleased with his side’s defensive efforts against Arsenal’s talented attackers, and praised Kasper Schmeichel for his display in north London. “Apart from the one time he tried to beat the goalkeeper!” joked Rodgers when asked whether he was impressed with Schmeichel’s efforts.
“He was outstanding. He’s a top-class ‘keeper. He’s one of the world’s best goalkeepers and we’re very lucky to have him.”
