- Brendan Rodgers reflects on the return of Dennis Praet, James Maddison and Islam Slimani- Praet (knee) and Maddison (hip) featured in Leicester City’s 1-0 defeat by Aston Villa on Sunday- Islam Slimani, meanwhile, played for the first time in 1,006 days for Leicester
Praet, recovering from a knee problem, started the fixture at King Power Stadium, while Maddison, recently suffering from a hip issue, came on in the second period. For Rodgers, the involvement of both midfielders was pleasing to see, and the Northern Irishman also commented on the return of Islam Slimani. “Dennis [Praet] is coming back,” Rodgers said. “He's not obviously played any football for a while, and he's just gone back into training, so it was always the idea for him to get 60/65 and then James to come in and get 20 to 25 minutes.
“So yes, good for both those guys to get some game time.
“I've never really had the chance to work with Slim because he's been out on loan, and I felt that if he stayed, then he could be a good option for us.
“I think it's about the guys getting used to playing with him because he needs the ball in the box.
“You need crosses from wide and he's fantastic in the air, he gets himself onto two headers. So, yes, it's good to have him in the group and we'll need a squad for the number of games that we will have this season.”
Rodgers will now prepare his side for their UEFA Europa League Group G encounter with FC Zorya Luhansk on Thursday, and he underlined his desires for City to be a success in Europe. “We want to be strong in it, it's a competition that we worked very, very hard to get into - European football,” he said.
“So, we'll dust ourselves off tonight, we showed some good moments, but we're now going to put it behind us and get on to our next game.”
