- Brendan Rodgers speaks after Thursday's 1-1 draw with Spartak Moscow- The result leaves Leicester City two points adrift of top spot in Group C in the UEFA Europa League- Rodgers was pleased, on the whole, with City's performance against the Russian side- He also looks ahead to Sunday's Premier League visit to Leeds United
The two sides shared the spoils in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday as Victor Moses' header was cut out by Daniel Amartey on Filbert Way. Leicester were dominant throughout the Group C encounter, but had to settle for a draw against the 22-time Russian champions.
City's fixture schedule hurtles on this weekend, though, as Rodgers takes his side to Elland Road to tackle Marcelo Bielsa's Yorkshire outfit in a 2pm GMT kick-off. Speaking after the clash with Spartak, the Northern Irishman looked ahead to that trip to Leeds.
"That’s what it’s about," the 48-year-old said. "When you’re playing in European football, like we have done over these last number of seasons, it’s clearly a challenge.
"That’s what we wanted. We’ve had a really good level of success here which has allowed us to compete in Europe. You know you’ll be playing on Thursday and your next game will be difficult.
"They’re a team that will test us physically, but we’ll be ready for that. We’ll get some recovery in over the next couple of days, identify our plan for the game, and let’s see if we can go and get the three points."
Naturally, after such an attacking performance, Rodgers was disappointed to leave Thursday's game with only a point, but the overall nature of Leicester's performance pleased the former Liverpool and Celtic manager.
"I thought, performance-wise, we played reasonably well," he continued. "When you’re playing against a team that conceded four at home, they were never going to open up the space.
"They defended very deep, but how we managed to play through that at times and arrive into very good areas, I thought we did that well. We created chances, more than enough to win.
"One moment where we lacked concentration and ability to run back actually cost us doing down in the game. Again, our reaction was really good. We got a really good set-piece goal.
"We had other chances to win the game, so to not win it is a little bit frustrating, but performance-wise, there was lots of elements which pleased me against a deep-lying defence."
It's a result which Rodgers believes places greater importance on City's remaining two games, Legia Warsaw (H) and Napoli (A), with Leicester currently just two points adrift of the summit in Group C.
"If we win the two games, we win the group," he explained. "Obviously Napoli will be tough away from home, but we played well against them here, to be 2-0 up. We know, if we play to our highest level and defend well, we can win. It’s about the next game. It’s all to play for.
"We want to get victories, but most importantly, we have to win our next one. That will put us in a good place going into the last game."
