- Leicester City’s qualities were lauded by manager Brendan Rodgers following Thursday’s success against Sheffield United- The Foxes won 2-0 on Filbert Way in the Premier League- City’s victory came as a result of goals from Ayoze Pérez and Demarai Gray
City secured European football next term after goals from Ayoze Pérez and Demarai Gray complemented a convincing performance against the Blades. Rodgers felt the Foxes played with purpose and intensity on Filbert Way, and are now looking forward to tackling José Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Rodgers said: “We’re talked about that element of it – the pressure side – but we needed to play our football. We’ve been too anxious for too many performances, but tonight was just about playing our game.
“That’s more like us. We’ve been like that for a lot of games this season and we are where we are because of that, so we showed tonight we’re a good team again and we played with good purpose and good intensity. We’ll get ready now for Sunday.”
Voted Man of the Match by the Blue Army on social media, debutant Luke Thomas also received praise from his manager at full-time. Syston-born Thomas, who joined the Club in 2008, came in at left-back and registered an assist and clean sheet during his maiden senior appearance.
Rodgers added: “He was outstanding. Great temperament, great composure. He’s an outstanding talent and it was a great performance.”
