The 33-year-old Foxes shot-stopper - who also starred in 4-0 and 3-0 successes for the Danes over Faroe Islands and Iceland this month - kept his third successive clean sheet for his country. After Manchester United defender Harry Maguire was sent off in the first half, Internazionale midfielder Christian Eriksen later stepped up to convert a 35th-minute penalty for Kasper Hjulmand's men.
Schmeichel, on the other hand, made his most notable contribution on 65 minutes as Chelsea's Mason Mount headed towards goal at point-blank range, prompting City's No.1 into a fine instinctive save.
The result propels Denmark above the Three Lions - who had Reece James dismissed after full-time - to second in League A Group 2 with two matchdays still to be contested.
Elsewhere, Youri Tielemans started for Group 2 leaders Belgium as the Red Devils sealed a 2-1 triumph over Iceland in Reykjavik, courtesy of a brace from another Inter star, Romelu Lukaku. The Leicester midfielder played the full match for his country, while full-back Timothy Castagne came off the bench with 22 minutes still to play. Dennis Praet, though, did not feature. Foxes duo Tielemans and Castagne played their parts in three fixtures for Roberto Martínez's men as they were first held to a 1-1 friendly draw by Ivory Coast, before losing out 2-1 to England on Sunday night.
In Istanbul, Cengiz Ünder was among the starters for Turkey as they played out a 2-2 draw with Serbia at Türk Telekom Stadium to leave the Crescent-Stars still searching for their first Nations League win. Sergej Milinković-Savić and Aleksandar Mitrović put the Serbians in front, although Hakan Çalhanoğlu got one back, before Ozan Tufan's 76th-minute leveller, leaving them third in League B Group 3.
Çağlar Söyüncü did not appear for Şenol Güneş' men, while Ünder - on loan through 2020/21 from Italian side AS Roma - previously featured from the bench in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Russia. Jonny Evans, meanwhile, wore the captain's armband for Northern Ireland before being substituted at the interval in a 1-0 loss for former Fox Ian Baraclough's side to Norway in League B Group 1. Evans was integral in a 1-1 draw with Bosnia & Herzegovina, followed by a 4-3 penalty shootout success, last Thursday in UEFA European Championships qualifying, while also featuring in Sunday's 1-0 loss to Austria.
While Danny Ward as unused by Wales, who beat Bulgaria 1-0, Wednesday's action concluded a week of international representation for the Foxes which saw several of the Club's stars make headlines. Academy graduate Harvey Barnes was handed his senior debut for England in a 3-0 friendly win over Wales last Thursday, while Wesley Fofana also made his maiden appearance for France's Under-21s. Fofana, a summer signing at King Power Stadium, helped Les Bleus to a 5-0 success over Liechtenstein Under-21s in UEFA U21 European Championships qualifying, before a 1-0 win against Slovakia on Monday.
James Justin, meanwhile, played a key role as England qualified for next year’s U21 European Championships with victory over Turkey, while Kelechi Iheanacho made a goalscoring return for Nigeria. A 1-0 triumph over Turkey's Under-21s at Molineux was enough for the Young Lions to qualify from Group 3, while Iheanacho's spot-kick enabled Nigeria to draw 1-1 with Tunisia on Tuesday evening.
Luke Thomas, on the other hand, featured for the Three Lions' Under-20s set-up as they beat Wales 2-0 at St. George’s Park in an international friendly fixture. Leicester City's large international contingent will now return to the East Midlands as preparations continue for Sunday's Premier League visit of Aston Villa (7:15pm BST kick-off).
