- Gerry Taggart and Filbert Fox met 40,000 visitors at Premier League Live in India- The Club welcomed the international Blue Army in Bengaluru over the past weekend- Leicester City's Supporter Engagement team provided free giveaways and signed merchandise
Across a vibrant weekend of live match action and entertainment, over 40,000 passionate Indian supporters passed through the gates to sample the unique atmosphere of English football.
A two-day expression of the worldwide appeal of the Premier League, Taggart and Filbert were fortunate enough to meet some of the Club’s most far-flung supporters in the state of the Karnataka. “The Indian people have got such a lovely way about them,” Taggart told LCFC TV. “They have queued up in their droves to come and meet Filbert and I in the Club tent. “I am delighted that so many people wanted to come and chat about Leicester City. You have to give credit to the way the Club has set their tent up, it’s a lovely display.
“The crowds have just kept coming because there is so much to see. When you look at the size of the venue, it’s a big park and a lot of infrastructure has gone into it.
“They love their Premier League football over here and, hopefully, they’ll also love Leicester City too. I’m more than privileged to be here.
“Anything I can do to help Leicester City succeed, I am more than happy to help.”
One of the thousands of visitors to pass through the Club’s tent was Manoj Kumar, a dedicated Foxes supporter who arranges parties in Bengaluru for fans to watch City in action.
For Manoj, King Power Stadium may be almost 5,000 miles away, but the spirit of the Club, following their Premier League title win of 2016, has helped bring it closer to their Indian fan base.
“Leicester City is very far away but that doesn’t mean that it is far from my heart,” Manoj said. “It means a lot to be a Leicester fan in India and a fanbase needs to grow.
“We will be a bigger team in India for Leicester. To come to my home city, it is very wonderful. It is a dream come true for me. I have no words to describe it, I am just speechless.”
City’s tent proved to be a popular attraction on both days with rare memorabilia on display, including match-worn shirts, signed boots and the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.
Filbert, too, took advantage of the opportunity to meet the Club’s supporters in India.
Continuing his world tour - following recent trips to Los Angeles, Mumbai, Hong Kong, Seville, Madrid, Porto, Stockholm and Copenhagen - Filbert was a recognisable figure for many.
Over the entire weekend, Premier League Live gave the Club a platform to meet and greet many supporters who may not be able to travel to the East Midlands.
As Taggart and fellow ex-Foxes star Paul Dickov showed on Saturday, the tennis football court at City’s tent also drew the crowds with plenty of fun activities and free giveaways on offer.
Visitors left with exclusive Bengaluru-themed clap banners, drawstring bags, earphones, pens and signed photographs from both Taggart and Filbert.
Callum Kirkwood, from the Club’s Supporter Engagement team, explained: “It’s a pleasure to be here after visiting Mumbai back in 2014 and it’s clear how much we have grown.
“After winning the Premier League, we don’t need to introduce ourselves. We aim to reward supporters for their dedication and hope to stay in touch with them in the future.
"It's been a wonderful weekend for the Club.”
