- Manager Brendan Rodgers reflects on Leicester City’s 5-2 Premier League win at Manchester City- Jamie Vardy (3), James Maddison and Youri Tielemans goals secured the iconic success at Etihad Stadium- Rodgers was thrilled with Daniel Amartey’s involvement in a Premier League game for the first time in 23 months
The Foxes delivered an incredible performance to sweep Pep Guardiola’s men aside, showing spirit to recover from Riyad Mahrez’s early half-volley. A hat-trick from Jamie Vardy, plus James Maddison’s stunner and a spot-kick from Youri Tielemans secured three points for Leicester, who sit top of the Premier League with three wins from three outings. “We’ll just recover from this game, we'll analyse where we could be better in the game and then get ready to get our three points next week before the international break,” Rodgers told LCFC TV. “If we can make it four wins out of four, it's been a really, really good start.”
Rodgers reserved praise for Daniel Amartey, who played his first Premier League match in 23 months, having also featured against Arsenal in midweek. “Incredible,” the City manager said of the Ghanaian. “He's obviously been injured for a lot of my time since he's been here, but he played against Arsenal in the week and was very good.
“And he surprised me to be honest, his level of fitness, and then to have a three-day turnaround and come in and play his second game in a week against such an opponent, I really can't speak highly enough of him.
“[He] defends really well, passes the ball well, and yes, he was incredible.”
