- LCFC Women take on Lewes Women in the FA Women's Championship on Sunday afternoon- The encounter at The Dripping Pan (2pm kick-off) will be City's final away game in the league- Jonathan Morgan assessed the challenge awaiting Leicester during Thursday's pre-match presser- The Foxes manager believes that Lewes will provide a tough test for the champions
Having already wrapped up the FA Women's Championship title, there is still plenty to play for, with Lewes and then Charlton Athletic to come and a Vitality Women's FA Cup Fifth Round clash against Manchester United also on the horizon - the Foxes' reward for defeating Liverpool last weekend.
LCFC Women's manager previewed the trip to the South Coast when speaking in his virtual pre-match press conference from Belvoir Drive and is adamant that City won't be taking their foot off the gas in pursuit of team and individual targets.
"It's about remaining professional now," Morgan told the media on Thursday afternoon. "We want to keep ourselves ticking over for the Man Utd tie.
"We've got two more league games in Lewes and Charlton and, from our point of view, we want to try and extend our unbeaten run to 14 league games. It's a Championship record and we want to go out of this league with a record that's going to be hard to beat in the future.
"On top of that, there are a couple of individual records that a few of the girls are chasing, Kirstie [Levell] is chasing the Golden Glove and Tash [Flint] is chasing the Golden Boot, so we want to support them with that quest.
"But most importantly, it's just saying to the girls: 'Enjoy the rest of the season and keep your pride for one another'. We don't want to be that team that wins the league and then drops off form.
"We're still going to look to put out our strongest XI. We want to keep giving credit to the league and go out with a bang."
Morgan has needed to provide little extra motivation to the group who have demonstrated their hunger to achieve even more before the end of the current season.
"These last two weeks of training have been our best in the whole season," he explained. "The girls have looked fit, they've looked fresh and sharp, we've had everybody in.
"There's no new injuries to report, the girls are happy, they're in a good mood and that's obviously seen around the camp. We're quite a young team, a lot of our girls are between the ages of 18 and 22, there's only Remi [Allen] and Sophie Barker who are actually above the age of 25 in the squad.
"Thankfully, they have remained switched on and focused and that's a credit to them because we have won the league and it would be easy to switch off but they have their own individual desires to make sure they finish strong and they are competitive. Everyone wants to start these next two games.
"We've got the Man Utd game as the carrot for everyone to say: 'Look, that's the big game at the end of the season'. It's a competitive game, it's one we want to do well in, if you train well for these next few weeks, who knows who could be starting."
Meanwhile, Sunday's opponents Lewes sit fifth in the current standings having collected 25 points from their 18 fixtures and are enjoying their best season in the second tier to date under the management of Simon Parker.
Leicester came out on top in a close encounter at Farley Way Stadium earlier in the season and Morgan expects a similarly tight affair this time around.
"We've had a lot of encounters with Lewes over the years and, thankfully, we've been coming out on the right end of them recently," he added. "But they're a fantastically organised team.
"Simon has them defensively solid, they are very compact centrally and they make you work to break them down and to find the gaps in their defensive line. At the same time, they've brought in Ini [Umotong] and she's a brilliant striker, she's hit the ground running for them, getting goals.
"We know that they've got a threat on the counter and we've had to change our tactics slightly this week to find a way to exploit them, but we'll go to The Dripping Pan and hopefully pick up another three points and another victory."
