- LCFC Women will face Everton at King Power Stadium on Sunday- The Barclays Women’s Super League fixture has a 3pm kick-off- City were beaten by Manchester United last time out in the WSL- Josie Green says the team have reflected on the loss and are ready to fight for points
After gaining a good bit of momentum in the Barclays Women’s Super League, the Foxes’ form was halted slightly when they were defeated by league leaders Manchester United last weekend.
In a game where Lioness Alessia Russo scored a hat-trick, Green was able to reflect on the lessons learnt from Leigh Sports Village.
“I think we did at times give Manchester United too much respect in the game,” the midfielder explained in Friday’s press conference. “But this week in training you can see the mentality from the girls is there, and we're excited for the game this weekend to try and put things right.
“You've got to reflect on your performance. We know it wasn't good enough. We've got to reflect on ourselves, and each individual needs to take accountability for their role in that loss on Sunday so that you can improve.
“Having those open and honest conversations about what we can do better have been really important, and hopefully we can put that into practice this week going forward.”
In a week which has seen parts of the country covered in snow, the 29-year-old was keen to mention the hard work that the players and staff alike were able to put in to allow for training to continue in an ordinary manner.
“The groundsmen are fantastic here and the facilities are unreal,” the Welsh international stated. “Even if there are a few snowballs, or a few bits of snow, we can go into the dome and train in there, so it hasn't impacted us massively.
Currently two points behind Brighton & Hove Albion, and therefore within touching distance of pulling themselves out of the relegation zone, the No.14 spoke of the team’s spirit to turn performances around with three points this weekend.
She added: “We know Everton are going to be a big challenge. They like to keep possession of the ball and we know they've got a few threats in their team. But we've focused on us this week and what we're going to do.
“It's going to be a big game for us, but we're going into it ready and with confidence. We take every game as it comes and try to not look too far ahead. But we know that we're in a relegation battle, and that every game is important for us.
“We're only looking at Sunday at the moment and looking to go into every game with the mentality to win the game, and that's what we're going to do, and hopefully we can get those three points.
“Every time we play King Power Stadium, the fans have been amazing, and hopefully this Sunday will be no different. It's almost like having a 12th man in the crowd to spur you on.”
