He was also Chairman of the Board from 1961-1964 and from 1975-1978. His signature is in the top right-hand corner of the cover.
This booklet was published halfway through the 1935/36 season, which in many ways, was the start of a new era.
The previous season, City had been relegated after 10 years in the old First Division, during which time the team had finished third and then runners-up in the top flight.
The 1935/36 campaign also began without three star players. These were Adam Black, Arthur Chandler and Hugh Adcock who, since the early 1920s, had played over 1,000 matches between them for Leicester.
The 24-page booklet contains a fairly random selection of articles and photographs relating to the Club’s history.
There is a brief survey of history of the Club, expressing the hope that ‘at the time of writing, the possibilities of promotion are undeniably good’. In fact, Leicester finished the season in sixth place but were promoted as champions the following season.
There is an article on Leicester Fosse’s 1904/05 season which mentions that, the previous season, the Club had finished bottom of the Football League and had to seek re-election to stay in it. It includes a photograph of the team in their lounge suits outside the Manor House Hotel in Quorn.
Other pages feature Fosse’s Scotland international Andy Aitken, who became player-manager in 1909 soon after joining the Club, and England internationals Hugh Adcock and Ernie Hine, who played together for England in 1929.
Among the monochrome photographs in the booklet, there are seven team pictures selected from the years between 1893 and 1930. A picture of the current team includes Sep Smith, who was selected for England during the season the booklet was published. Wales international Dai Jones is also in this picture.
There are photographs of Arthur Lochhead and the Secretary George Smith and of former Fosse players George Beardsley and William Leech. Pictures of more recent Leicester City players, Adam Black, George Carr, Johnny Duncan and John Roxburgh also appear.
The remainder of the booklet is filled with adverts for local firms. These include the Leicester Cooperative Society Travel Bureau on the front cover, together with adverts for well-known firms such as Kirby and West, Gadsby’s, Everards, Mitchell and Butlers, William Hercock and Walkers Pork Pies.
