We heard from a range of medical professionals and club staff across the documentary, which is now available to watch in full on our YouTube channel, with footage from as far afield as Tamale and Accra, and up close, behind-the-scenes access to all aspects of his recovery at LCFC Training Ground and visiting specialists in London.
Dr Simon Morris, Head of Medicine at Leicester City, shared insight into his first involvement with the process, from being contacted by Abdul shortly after sustaining the injury while the 21-year-old was playing for Ghana in Angola.

“These are all the challenges of being a doctor and running a medical department with players on international duty,” he explained. “It’s the first operation he’d had, so didn’t know what to expect. At every stage we’ve had to think about how we do things and tweak it to Abdul. It was the complete unknown for him.”
The first post-operation stage was to rebuild his knee. First Team Rehabilitation Physiotherapist Phil Pomeroy worked alongside the winger from this time and revealed how his upbeat attitude helped to guide him through the tough moments.
Pomeroy said: “Even in the early stages, when, in my experience, it’s difficult for athletes to deal with the pain and the drop in mobility and function of normal living, he was still coming in with a smile on his face and happy to be working. In his mindset, he’s working to get himself better.”

By February, Abdul was due a 12-week post-surgery check-up, heading down to the capital for the update. “They give me more energy to work, Abdul revealed walking out, having been given good news. “They said I’ve been doing good and my knee is so strong.”
Back in Seagrave, phase two began. A mixture of swimming and gym and bike work, often alone, was the order of the day, only able to watch on from the stand when his team-mates were in action each week.
Progression was there, though, and events such as an Iftar gathering at King Power Stadium allowed Abdul to take his mind off the football side and engage with the local community, taking part in the fast-breaking evening meal observed during Ramadan.
It was a special event to be a part of, he said.

“It feels good when everyone is around,” the Ghanian shared. It (Ramadan) has not been easy. When you’re hungry, you don’t feel happy. Now I feel happy because I’ve eaten something!
“For me, at this time, I feel close to God. I like the event, to get people praying together. I feel like I’m having Iftar with my family back home.”
There’s plenty more to enjoy in the full documentary, including getting back on the grass in Seagrave, before his long-awaited return to the pitch, as well as a special visit back to his hometown in Ghana – watch it all here!
