Leicester City in the Community to promote breast cancer awareness and women's health at Saturday's Doncaster Rovers fixture
Active Women programme recently hosted a special awareness event at Leicester's African Caribbean Centre
Supporters can access health information and resources in the Fan Zone
Programme has engaged more than 5,500 participants over the past 12 months
Supporters visiting the Fan Zone on the brickweave at King Power Stadium will be able to engage with representatives from LCitC's Active Women programme, which supports women from diverse communities across Leicester.
The activity builds on a recent breast cancer awareness event held at the African Caribbean Centre, which brought together local residents, healthcare professionals and community partners to promote early detection, regular health checks and greater awareness of the disease.
Supported by funding from Breast Cancer Now, the September event combined a Soca fitness session with an expert presentation and Q&A from Dr Olubukola Ayodele, Consultant Medical Oncologist and Medical Oncology Breast Cancer Lead at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. Participants were encouraged to ask questions, challenge common misconceptions and share experiences in a welcoming environment, with a particular focus on overcoming barriers to accessing health information and support.
Aura, Active Women Project Coordinator at Leicester City in the Community, said: "Raising awareness of breast cancer and encouraging women to take care of their health is incredibly important, and we wanted to make sure those conversations were reaching women within African, Caribbean and South East Asian communities.
"Through Active Women, and using the power of the Leicester City badge, we were able to create a safe and welcoming space for women to come together, share experiences and learn more about their health."
Over the past 12 months, LCitC's Active Women programme has engaged 5,513 participants, delivering 219 sessions and 3,451 contact hours.
Staff from the programme will be on hand ahead of Saturday's fixture to provide supporters with information and resources used during the September event, extending its reach to the wider Leicester City community.
The activity forms part of the Club's Everyone's Game celebrations, recognising the people, cultures and communities that make Leicester unique, while also supporting the EFL's Together Against Racism campaign.
