  • Our Under-18s defeated Arsenal 2-1 in U18 Premier League South on Saturday
  • Lorenz Hutchinson and Hugo de Lisle scored the goals in the away win
  • Adam Barradell provided his post-match thoughts with Chelsea up next
Hugo de Lisle’s stoppage-time winner saw the young Foxes come away from Sobha Realty Training Centre with all three U18 Premier League South points at the weekend, following Lorenz Hutchinson’s opener, which had been cancelled out by Ceadach O’Neill with 20 minutes to play.
“First of all, it was a fantastic result,” Leicester’s Under-18s coach commented. “Any time you go down to play Arsenal and you can get a result it’s fantastic. It’s great for the group, for the staff. That was really pleasing and the performance level I was delighted with across the game.

“[In the] first half, they got in our box three times, so I was pleased with the defensive structure. We set a game plan up for the lads and they executed it outstandingly, especially in the first half, to go in 1-0 up and defend really well, play a little bit on the counter, but there were times when we were excellent on the ball.
“We had a good shape about us, we played through them and Arsenal gave us a lot of respect and dropped us, which shows the work that we’ve been doing as a group in training and the progress we’ve made.
“We’re delighted with that. We’ve worked heavily in the build-up to this game on Thursday and Friday and to see it come to fruition with the performance from the individuals in the team was excellent.”

Hutchinson continued his fine scoring run of 13 goals and three assists in 11 league matches, while de Lisle is also showing his qualities in the final third. Defensive displays were also worthy of a mention, too.
“Lorenz is on an excellent run of form,” Barradell explained. “His performances for the Under-18s in terms of scoring have been outstanding. He’s in double figures now, he’s up there in the scoring charts and has worked really hard on his shot conversion.
“His ability in the box, technique off both feet, different types of finishes, he’s a boy who works really hard and is on that every day, always wanting to do extras. Seeing Hugo score from no.10, I think he’s scored five in five now so he’s adding those outcomes to his game, goals and assists.
“We’re challenging him on that. To see him score like that at the end of the game was brilliant for him. The whole team performance [was good], but [with] a few individuals are worthy of note. Alpha Diallo defended the box excellently as well as the whole backline.”

Overseeing successive wins either side of the New Year, following victory over Norwich City, Barradell wanted the players to show a reaction after exiting the FA Youth Cup, now taking confidence into this Saturday’s clash with league leaders Chelsea at LCFC Training Ground (12pm GMT kick-off).
He added: “We spoke as a group after the disappointing result in the Youth Cup, a prestigious competition which we wanted to go far in. To go out on penalties was disappointing on the night, but we wanted to bounce back after Norwich and take that into Arsenal.
“We know it’s another high-level game, so we want to try and continue that this weekend against Chelsea. It’s a great challenge for the lads. I say to them every week that they are playing the best level of Under-18s football in the country in a really tough league.
“They’ll embrace the challenge. It’ll be a good game; it’s a game we’ll focus on ourselves. It’s not about Chelsea, it’s about us and how we approach the game and play. I’m pretty sure the lads will be ready and, especially after the weekend’s result, looking forward to the fixture.”
