LCFC Women head to Emirates Stadium to tackle the second-placed Gunners knowing they are likely to be put to the test in north London. Nevertheless, Miquel has been enthused by our recent form and called on her players to secure the maximum amount of points possible as they chase Club records in the WSL.
Ahead of this next top-flight test, here’s what she had to say…
Twelve points available
City drew with Tottenham last time out in the WSL.
We head into Tuesday’s contest unbeaten in two after a 3-2 victory over Brighton was followed by a 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur before the international break.
It’s been an encouraging 2025 in general for Miquel’s side, who are hoping to soon confirm their WSL status for another year – and, in the process, secure an LCFC record points tally in the league.
“We’re feeling good,” the French Manager told reporters on Monday afternoon. “We know that we want to perform as well as we can in the last four [games].
“Obviously, the first two, on paper it might be a bit hard but then again, in any game, there can be surprises so we have to be ready to perform in all four of them.
“Four wins would be great. Why focus on one win? Why do less when you can do more? Our objective is to have the best season possible and there’s still 12 points that can be taken and we’re aiming for the 12.”
Assessing the Arsenal threat
Renée Slegers has made a strong impression in north London.
Arsenal are second in the table, albeit six points adrift of leaders Chelsea, while also having a two-legged UEFA Women’s Champions League Semi-Final tie with Lyon on the cards.
Miquel admits a win in the capital would be a special achievement against a side who left King Power Stadium as 1-0 winners back in September. It’s been all change at Arsenal since then, however, with new manager Renée Slegers now starting to get her ideas across.
“I think we always have a chance to do something special,” Miquel added. “We are in a very different situation ourselves and also Arsenal have had a change of manager.
“Even if it’s not recent, it’s still not the same way of playing they had in the first phase. We had some players who were not available on the first phase, so I think it’s going to be a different game.
“I think she (Slegers) has been doing very well. Since she took over, they are scoring much more goals and we know their qualification in the Champions League shows also they are really performing. Any team that wants to be able to compete needs to be in one of their best days so that’s what we’ll try to do.
“You have two possibilities (on the impact of their Champions League game vs. Lyon on Tuesday's match). Either it’s a distraction or a rehearsal, so we’ll hope for the first one.”
Eyeing improvements
Amandine Miquel delivers instructions in LCFC Women training.
We are two points adrift of our record WSL points tally (currently 16, record: 18), but with WSL safety yet to be secured, there’s work to do.
Injuries have been a reoccurring theme for LCFC Women this term, but Miquel is hoping to see improvements continue next term if those problems don't return in the future.
“We’ve nearly a full squad because we don’t have a striker,” she added. “We put wingers up there. If we had a full season, at least part of it, with all of the positions available, I guess we would do better.
“[We’ll be] trying to reduce as much turnover as we can in the summer, so that we don’t have to start all over again. I hope that, if we have less challenges on the injuries side, we should perform better and faster. Ask me again in six months, but my prediction if that all these aspects that I’ve just said [are better], then we’ll be doing better.”
