  • City’s Under-18s are currently involved in the Generation adidas Cup
  • Two 1-1 draws with New York Red Bulls and Vancouver Whitecaps opened Group A
  • We then narrowly lost out to Minnesota United in the final group fixture
  • Leicester finish third and now move into the next stage of the competition
The Stateside tournament’s group stage action, split into 10 pools of four, got underway at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida this weekend, as 80 academy teams from 14 countries across four continents competed to progress into the last-16 and ultimately lift the Championship trophy.
There’s also opportunities to lift silverware in the Showcase, Premier and Consolation brackets of the tournament, with all teams guaranteed to play seven matches across the week.
In City’s opening fixture, Lorenz Hutchinson opened the scoring for the young Foxes 13 minutes in, first to the loose ball afterJosh King hit the upright, but New York responded in first-half stoppage time; Dennis Nelich with the equaliser to send the match to penalties.

With one point on the board, Leicester’s youngsters increased their tally following another 1-1 draw, this time with Vancouver Whitecaps, before earning an extra point courtesy of a 5-4 victory in the resulting shootout.
Battling for a spot in the Championship knockout stages, the side coached by Adam Barradell went head-to-head with Minnesota United in the final group fixture, but were unable to a find a way through against the Loons.
Gavin Stevenson’s goal eventually settled the tie as we ended the group stage with a 1-0 defeat on America’s south east coast, finishing on three points; Minnesota in second on six points while NYRB topped the pool on eight.
