LCFC Women beaten 5-1 by Arsenal on Tuesday night
Yuka Momiki scored a consolation goal at Emirates Stadium
Amandine Miquel reacted to the Barclays Women’s Super League loss
LCFC Women were given a tough lesson in the capital, following a 5-1 loss to Arsenal on their patch, which included a Caitlin Foord brace and a Yuka Momiki consolation for the Foxes.
Disappointed to give the hosts as much room as we did, the Manager spoke about what went wrong under the lights, leading to a clear difference between the two sides.
“We made some mistakes,” Miquel stated. “We were dropping too much inside our own box and there was a lack of aggressiveness in moments.
“We need to have a better rhythm together, but we played an opponent that is playing well and performing.
A hard shift under the lights.
“I feel that for the players it was hard. We tried to get them to start again at half-time, and we knew there were things we could do better when we recovered the ball.
“We wanted to make sure we didn’t give up and we got our goal, but [there's] certainly more things to learn from.”
Despite conceding five, and admitting that individual errors were made, Miquel explained that she isn’t too worried about the overall outcome, as Arsenal’s world-class quality shone through.
“For me, the result was mostly down to the quality of the opponent and it’s not a problem for me to worry about coming from us,” the Manager continued.
“Today, Arsenal were better than us and if you want to take less goals, you need to be close to perfection and we were not.
“Against this type of opponent, if you’re not precise in everything you do, then they’ll punish you straight away and it was hard for us because they kept the same speed throughout.”
A rampant Arsenal side took the points.
The Foxes now have a couple of weeks to prepare for their next fixture, when we welcome Manchester City to King Power Stadium on Sunday 27 April (3pm BST kick-off), with tickets still available for the fixture. Another tough test awaits us as the end of the season draws near, but Miquel hopes her side take the learnings from the recent defeat in London in their preparation.
She added: “We have to have individual analysis and then us as staff will try to give as much feedback as possible to try and prevent the same situation.
“We want to reduce the number of good opportunities that Man City will have and use this defeat today as a learning curve.”
