Liam Cullen’s seventh-minute opener, his second goal in as many games, put us in front before Luca Connell was dismissed for the Tykes midway through the first half.

We paid the price, though, for not finding a second goal in south Yorkshire, as Reyes Cleary netted in the 61st minute for the home side. We’re next in action on Tuesday night at home against Fulham U21s in the EFL Trophy group stage before an international break from competitive action for Russell Martin’s men.

Taking the lead

Martin made two changes to the XI which left Stockport County with three hard-earned points last weekend, as Wout Faes and Olabade Aluko came in for Harry Souttar and Jayden Joseph respectively.

Aside from some early work for visiting goalkeeper Alex McCarthy in our net, saving well from close range to frustrate Cleary, it was a promising start to proceedings. Shooting away from an away end packed with 4,341 Foxes fans, we were on the front foot to begin with.

Just seven minutes in, we broke down the left channel, with Luke Thomas skidding a low delivery across the box for Cullen to slot into the bottom corner. That’s now goals in consecutive weekends for the former Swansea City forward.

Chances for City

We kept threatening after taking the lead. Firstly, Will Alves' delivery fell to Sammy Braybrooke in the box, but his first-time hit was blocked. The Academy graduates switched roles moments later, with Braybrooke turning provider.

His floated cross was perfect for Alves, but the youngster couldn’t divert the ball goalwards. There was more joy down the left channel later on, with Alves locating Emil Riis in the middle, although Rogan Ravenhill made a solid stop.

Braybrooke had another sight of goal when he nodded Riis’ cross too close to Ravenhill. The next flashpoint saw Connell shown a straight red card for a heavy challenge on Thomas midway through the half.

Barnsley hit back

The Foxes, however, were unable to capitalise on the man advantage with another goal. Barnsley were in the game as long as the lead stood at one and Daniel Stendel’s men were able to get back on level terms just after the hour mark.

Arley Kay won possession in the middle and slid a through ball into Cleary’s path to run onto and power the ball into the roof of the net. The warning signs were there as Patrick Kelly and Clearly himself had already gone close, while Warren O’Hora’s header caused issues at the other end.

Leicester continued to press and had much of the play in the latter moments with Cullen and Thomas forcing Ravenhill into more saves, before O’Hora got on the end of Thomas’ delivery but couldn’t divert it goalwards. Alex McCarthy was needed to prevent a later Tykes winner, too, tipping over Kelly’s effort in added time before a scramble in the Barnsley box nearly led to a late, late City winner, but it ended in a point apiece.
