Manager Russell Martin gave us thoughts on a frustrating afternoon

The Foxes, ahead through Liam Cullen’s goal in the seventh minute, were in the ascendency even before Luca Connell’s straight red card saw Barnsley reduced to 10 men mid-way through the first half.

Unable to capitalise on the man advantage, the hosts grew in confidence and levelled the game through Reyes Cleary’s 61st-minute strike.

“I’m so frustrated that we don’t win the game, I’m so disappointed,” Martin admitted after full-time. “With the amount of chances we created, the amount of times we were in the box. We started the game so well when it was 11 vs. 11.

“We cut through them a lot and played some good football, but none of it matters because we don’t win. We played against 10 men for so long. I can’t come out and say I’m really happy with some of the stuff we played.

“We have to win that game. We’ve let ourselves down in a big way today. At 1-0 up, we had a chance to go two, three, four and we don’t. We miss chances.

“The final action in the box, so many players get a chance to really show a moment of quality and that last moment was not good enough. It’s really frustrating because we should be here celebrating a good win.”

After scoring four at Stockport County last time out, we struggled to find the net this time around, missing opportunities to put daylight between the teams, which cost us after the Tykes equalised.

“We had better chances today than last week, but we didn’t take them,” the 40-year-old continued. “And when you don’t, we make one mistake in the middle of the pitch and get punished for it.

“Their guy, Cleary, who is in really good form, I think we have 10 of his actions where he scores the goal and we don’t do anything and he scores it. Ultimately, that’s why we draw the game.

“It’s that last little bit. I said to the players, it’s so frustrating because however you get there, whether we choose to do it in a certain way or another way, it’s not normal to have 50 touches in the box away from home, regardless of if it’s against 10 men.

“We don’t finish. Decision making, final execution, that’s the last bit that takes quality and big courage and we didn’t have enough in the final third.”

Cullen’s second goal in as many games, finishing off a free-flowing Foxes move, was only good enough to contribute to a point, but Martin has been pleased with his contribution in recent weeks,

“He’s frustrated he didn’t take another chance but he’s been really good since he came back into the team,” he added. “The move for his goal was outstanding. We should be here talking about that and we’re not.

“We’ve dropped two points and I can’t be any more honest than that.”
