It finished all square between Leicester City and Middlesbrough at Riverside Stadium
Caleb Okoli scored for the Foxes but his goal was cancelled out by Riley McGree
Ben Nelson shared his post-match thoughts on Tuesday evening
The defender saw positives in the performance to take into the weekend
The Foxes went ahead through Caleb Okoli, prior to Riley McGree scoring a first-half equaliser which meant the points were shared at Riverside Stadium, leaving us 22nd in the table, with Norwich City up next this Saturday.
Reflecting on a second successive away draw, Nelson took heart from the way the team performed against a side placed second in the Sky Bet Championship, particularly enthused to have found the net from a set piece.
He commented after full-time: “Going ahead in the first half was positive and we showed what we could do, getting a lot of chances and could have put more away in the first half.
“Equally, they had their chances as well, so all in all it was quite an even contest. We want to be better at set pieces and be more dominant in those scenarios, both defensively and attacking, so it’s nice to get one from a set piece.
“That’s the main thing, from us, we’re seeing performances getting better and more points. Still not what we want, a win, but another point in the right direction at a tough place to come.”
After Leicester had chances, the hosts pushed for a winner in the closing stages but City held out, showing the fight that will continue to be required in the final 12 matches, he believes.
The 21-year-old said: “We had to dig in at the end but that just shows progression and maybe in past games at the start of the season we concede there and we haven’t so it just shows the progression in the team.
“We wanted to have more of the ball in the second half but when we got the counter attacks, we looked dangerous and we definitely had plenty of opportunities ourselves. On another day, we go and end up winning the game. It’s positive.
“It’s been two tough games against two tough opponents. Of course, the lads have had to work hard in and out of possession.
“The fans always give you that boost and it’s always nice to hear when that many have travelled on a Tuesday night, such a long distance. It’s great to have that support and it just helps bring you over the line with the fans cheering.”
Back to King Power Stadium at the weekend, it’s a 12:30pm GMT kick-off on Filbert Way as Gary Rowett takes charge of his first home game as Foxes Manager against the Canaries. The defender hopes to use the backing of the Blue Army to our advantage as we take on yet another tough challenge.
“We’ve got another game on Saturday that we’ve got to put our heads to now,” he added. “I’m really looking forward to it. Hopefully it will be a good atmosphere and again the fans will help us again to keep pushing and hopefully get the win at the weekend.
“Every game is different with different challenges. It’s always going to be that way. It’s about learning and taking different bits from each game and keep pushing and having belief in yourself that you can perform at this level.”
