This extremely rare white goalkeeper’s shirt was one of only four which were made for Peter. He wore these as part of a very distinctive all-white kit in 1973/74 and for part of 1974/75.
The crest includes the initials ‘PS’ underneath the Admiral logo. This was the result of Peter’s agent Jon Holmes striking a deal with Cook & Hurst, a local Wigston firm whose brand was Admiral. They were the pioneers of branding football shirts with a manufacturer’s logo.

In the mid-1970s, their highly visible Admiral brand was very prominently displayed on the shirts of Leicester City, Southampton, Leeds United, Manchester United and England, together with many other teams.
Peter wore this design in our 1974 FA Cup Semi-Final replay against Liverpool. Thinking back to this game, Peter told us: “I wore this shirt in loads of games. In the replay at Villa Park, [Kevin] Keegan ran onto a long kick through the middle. He was watching the ball as it came over his head.

"He just took a chance and volleyed it into the top corner of the net. On Match of the Day, Jimmy Hill said: ‘I’m not sure about Shilton wearing that white jersey because Keegan saw him out of the corner of his eye’. Nonsense! If he’d have done that, he would have been Pelé, [Diego] Maradona and [Marco] van Basten all rolled into one!”
Peter also had some red and some green shirts made bearing this personalised crest. This was not the first innovative shirt worn by Peter at City. In 1969, he wore one specially manufactured for him with a zip on the collar. However, this was banned because the zip constituted a danger to other players.
