We travel to Manchester City in the Premier League on Wednesday
Bilal El Khannouss has returned from a goalscoring outing for Morocco
He hopes to bring that form to Leicester City over the coming weeks
The Foxes must go ‘all in’ in their pursuit of top-flight points, he says
Leicester City are nine points adrift of safety in the top flight standings, with nine games remaining, meaning the time is now for them to start picking up victories. Wednesday’s assignment involves a trip to the Premier League champions, a daunting task for anyone, but El Khannouss pointed to the importance of the ‘small details’ in Seagrave earlier this week. During the international break, the former Genk midfielder scored his first Morocco goal as the Atlas Lions went clear at the top of their FIFA World Cup qualifying group with victories over Niger and Tanzania – form he’s hoping follows him back to Leicester.
“It was a nice feeling,” El Khannouss said. “We needed to take six out of six for qualification for the World Cup and that’s what we did.
“It was a successful international break. Of course, it’s always nice to play for your country and win games. Also I scored my first goal for Morocco.
“It was a nice feeling and now I’m back here for Leicester and I hope to do the same here as well. It’s a difficult time. We’ve had some good performances with bad results.
“We have to go all in for the last nine games, for the rest of the season, to finish as good as possible.”
There’s no escaping the fact that, if City are to secure Premier League survival, their form needs to improve quickly – starting at Man City this week. El Khannouss says Leicester’s players must go ‘all in’ in their pursuit of points, acknowledging the scale of the task, but also approaching games with confidence.
“We have to play every game all in,” he added. “We have to play game by game and see what happens. We need to take three points as soon as possible.
“We’ll focus on what we have to do on the pitch and, when we have the ball or not, that’s the way we have to do it to prepare ourselves for the next game.
“We’re working hard every day to put it right in games, to score goals and not concede. Small details make the difference in football, for sure, at this level.
“In the Premier League, you’re playing against the best players in the world. Every detail matters. We have to look after it and try to make it right in the next games.”
Although Man City are uncharacteristically on the fringes of this year’s Premier League title race, El Khannouss has no doubts that it’ll be a difficult challenge on Wednesday.
“It's a difficult task, like every game in the Premier League, against every team,” he explained. “It’s always a difficult task.
“We showed when we played at home against them that we do something. We’ll go there with the same idea and try to take three points.
“They have a great manager, for me the best manager in the world. They have the best players in the world. They won the Premier League four times in a row, so we have to show respect to them.
“We’ll go there on Wednesday and try to take the points. That’s why we’re going there. Every game matters and we play every game to win.”
