We travel to Blackburn Rovers in our final outing of 25/26 on Saturday (12:30pm BST kick-off)
It comes after our relegation to Sky Bet League One was confirmed last week
Manager Gary Rowett says Harry Souttar is expected to be available for the match
Jamaal Lascelles, Aaron Ramsey and Abdul Fatawu are doubts to face Rovers
Leicester City, relegated to Sky Bet League One, head to Ewood Park on the final day of the 25/26 season on Saturday, a campaign which will end with a 23rd-place finish.
Gary Rowett, the Foxes Manager, spoke to the media on Thursday to provide an update on his squad, including Souttar, who returned from a lengthy injury lay-off in the 1-1 draw with Millwall last week.
“He hadn’t played for over 450 days,” Rowett said. “It was a quite remarkable performance to come and play to that level. It, in some ways, shows a little bit of maybe what we’ve missed this season in both boxes in a strange way.
“We were concerned to see if he had any after-effects of having to play for the whole 90 minutes, which obviously wasn’t necessarily the plan. As soon as we got to 75 minutes, Soutts kept saying: ‘I’m okay’.
“It wasn’t a game with so many swings to the game [that] he was having to sprint up and down the pitch. Having got through that, it was about how he reacted physically.
“He’s looked after himself this week, he’s had chance to recover, and he’s done some training. It’s been really pleasing that we’ve had no adverse reaction for him more than anything and he’ll be available for the weekend.”
There’s the chance that some younger players could be involved at Blackburn on Saturday, but Rowett says decisions are yet to be made on the matchday squad.
“You’ve seen most of the young players that have been involved with the team, been around the team anyway,” he added. “I’m always a big one for someone’s got to deserve the right to be in the First Team. From a cultural perspective, that’s where I come from.
“Certainly, there’s an opportunity that maybe a Louis [Page] has a chance to start, or a Jez (Jeremy Monga), a Bade [Aluko], or whoever that might be. Of course, those decisions will be made tomorrow largely.”
Lascelles, Ramsey and Fatawu, on the other hand, will be assessed before the trip to Lancashire.
“As you’d imagine, we’ve got a couple of probable doubts for the weekend,” Rowett explained. “Jamaal and Aaron Ramsey, they could both be a doubt for the weekend.
“Abdul [as well], based on him having stitches after the Millwall game [on] quite a bad wound. He’ll be definitely a doubt. He carried on but that type of injury obviously stiffens up and becomes uncomfortable. He’ll be a doubt.
“More or less, most of the other lads, I think, will be okay, or at least available for selection. We’ll see where we are at the end of today and make decisions for the game on Saturday.”
