Oxford United are the visitors to King Power Stadium on Saturday (3pm GMT kick-off) following on from a midweek draw with Wrexham, as the Foxes chase three points for the first time since our last fixture on home soil, a late win over West Bromwich Albion.
After falling behind in Tuesday’s fixture at STōK Cae Ras, requiring a last-minute Jannik Vestergaard equaliser to bring home a share of the spoils from north east Wales, Okoli wants City to assert dominance on games more regularly, starting on Filbert Way against the U’s.
“The three points has to be the target every game,” the Italian defender, who assisted his centre-back partner’s leveller at Wrexham, stated. “Going down 1-0 in the middle of the second half, we knew it was a tough task to get back because we were playing away. But we did well to keep going and at least bring one point back home.
“We all know that the Championship is a very tough league. We’ve still got 18 games left. We just need to keep going, pushing and trying even harder because, at the moment, we are still a little bit inconsistent.
“We need to give value to the point we took on Tuesday so, on Saturday, we need to aim for the maximum result. We know how important the three points are and we are ready for that.”
Crucial to build some momentum across back-to-back home games to end January, the aim is to compete higher up the table, with just five points separating us from the top six at this stage.
The visitors, meanwhile, are a team under new leadership following the recent arrival of head coach Matt Bloomfield, and, fighting to preserve their Sky Bet Championship status, have plenty to play for themselves.
He added: “We know that every team that comes to Leicester wants to give their best performance.
“We must be ready for that. They will have extra motivation and we also need to find in ourselves that extra boost to reach the next level.
“We need to start on the front foot – not only for us, but especially for the fans. We want them to push us and give us that extra yard. We need to push and work harder and the fans will join us with that.”
