The change comes as part of the Fan Choice Pilot - a wider trial taking place across the Barclays Women’s Super League and Barclays Women’s Super League 2 - following successful previous matches held under the pilot at other clubs. The initiative has already been in place for a significant number of WSL and WSL2 games, supporting a consistent, well-managed approach at women’s fixtures.
The pilot will begin at our home game against West Ham United and will apply only to LCFC Women matches at King Power Stadium.
Why is this for LCFC Women matches only?
Unlike men’s football in the UK, the women’s professional game is not covered by legislation in the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol etc.) Act 1985, which prohibits the consumption of alcohol in view of the pitch. As a result, the Fan Choice Pilot can be introduced for women’s fixtures but cannot be applied to Leicester City men’s matches.
Supporter information
King Power Stadium will continue to offer a welcoming matchday environment for all supporters. As part of the pilot:
Designated alcohol-free areas will also be in place in Blocks A2 and C1 (rows N to T)
Supporters are asked to drink responsibly and follow steward guidance at all times
Matchday operations will run as normal, with spectator safety and comfort the priority throughout
Consultation and approval
The introduction of the Fan Choice Pilot at King Power Stadium has been approved through:
LCFC Women Advisory Board
Safety Advisory Group (SAG)
Fan Advisory Board (FAB)
LCFC Women staff and players
Further matchday guidance, including any venue-specific arrangements that supporters need to be aware of, will be communicated in advance of each game.
Please note that only alcohol purchased within the stadium can be consumed on the premises.
Have Your Say
Supporters are invited to share their views on matchday experiences and the Fan Choice Pilot by completing a short online survey being run on behalf of the Barclays Women’s Super League and Barclays Women’s Super League 2.
The survey takes around 10 minutes to complete and gives fans the opportunity to enter a prize draw to win one of four £50 Amazon vouchers. Feedback will help inform the future delivery of women’s football matchdays across the league. Take part.
