Christian McFarlane reflected on Tuesday’s victory over Plymouth Argyle
The young defender wants to keep the momentum flowing this weekend

Our 2-0 triumph over Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday saw us produce a more clinical performance than in the goalless draw at MK Dons three days earlier, as goals from Will Alves and Harry Howell at the end of the first half sealed our maiden league victory of 26/27.

With Saturday’s clash against Oxford United now on the horizon, once again on Filbert Way, the England youth international is aiming to keep the momentum flowing in front of the City faithful after his first home appearance.

“It feels amazing,” the defender told us following full-time at King Power Stadium. “With the fans, it was a great atmosphere. It was great getting them hyped at the end. This is what we need, the togetherness with the fans.

“They helped us have a great performance. Coming off two great performances, it felt good to win tonight. We were a bit frustrated at Milton Keynes. We had so many chances to score and today we were more clinical, so I’m really happy about that.

“They (the goalscorers) are absolutely buzzing and I’m so happy for them. Obviously, it’s been tough not finishing our chances but I’m glad they got on the scoresheet.”

Arriving on loan from Manchester City this summer, McFarlane has made a strong impression at left-back in recent weeks and is enjoying being part of a back four which has now kept back-to-back clean sheets, picking up four points from a possible six, as well as contributing to Russell Martin's game plans further forward.

“In the backline, we speak a lot,” the 19-year-old explained. “The communication, the shifting, defending crosses... so I’m really happy.

“Building up and finishing the attack, I’m very confident. The coach asked us to be brave on the ball so that’s what we have to do.”
