Leicester City in the Community hosted a Diwali celebration at King Power Stadium
The Festival of Lights was marked with the creation of many different art forms
Traditional dances also took place inside the Community Hub on Filbert Way
Many people and local organisations joined the event, which was in partnership with WWF
Families, young people and local organisations joined the Club’s charitable arm at King Power Stadium to celebrate the Festival of Lights with creativity, culture and climate awareness.
A highlight of the Diwali event included the creation of a giant rangoli artwork featuring a fox; a symbolic blend of Leicester’s football heritage and WWF’s commitment to wildlife and nature.
Alongside this, participants took part in a nature-themed rangoli art competition, encouraging everyone to express their creativity while reflecting on the beauty of the natural world. Winners are due to be contacted today (20 October), and will receive vouchers for the Foxes Fanstore and some WWF goodies for their efforts.
A professional rangoli workshop led by talented local artists also took place, and helped attendees explore the traditional art form in a meaningful and engaging way.
Activities, from henna art and eco-friendly bag decorating to diya painting, biscuit decorating and dragonfly making, filled every corner of the Community Hub. Traditional dance performances from Arti’s Dance Academy also took place, with many attendees joining in to celebrate.
In addition to the festivities, the event welcomed Hindu Climate Action, Leicester Climate Action and Surya Community Energy, who all helped to connect cultural celebration with important conversations about sustainability and climate responsibility.
WWF’s Prescription for Nature campaign was also introduced to the attendees, encouraging everyone to get their daily dose of nature, and to reconnect with the world outside. To inspire this message further, cuddly WWF animal toys were handed out to children and adults alike; a keepsake of a memorable occasion for all involved.
The event was a powerful way to celebrate Diwali with the community, as well as raise awareness of important climate topics. Leicester City in the Community wishes everyone a very happy Diwali.
