  • Leicester City were beaten 4-1 by Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday
  • Facundo Buonanotte’s goal was quickly cancelled out by a rampant Brentford
  • First Team Coach Ben Dawson had his say on proceedings following full-time
The First Team Coach, who took the team ahead of Ruud van Nistelrooy’s tenure beginning on Sunday, admitted that it was a tough afternoon for the Foxes, who took the lead at Gtech Community Stadium, before falling 3-1 behind shortly before half-time.
That proved to be pivotal in the Bees claiming all three points and leaving Leicester 16th in the Premier League table.
He commented: “We need to be a bit more diligent and stronger in defence to reduce the number of chances and obviously keep the ball out of the net. We have to try to put together a complete performance that can get us some results in the Premier League.”
Kevin Schade scored a hat-trick in west London to take the game away from City, after Yoanne Wissa cancelled out Facundo Buonanotte’s opener, one of the positives that Dawson took away from an otherwise difficult 90 minutes.
The 43-year-old continued: “Looking back at some of the positives, in terms of our in-possession work, and our defending at times and obviously the goal and the chances that we created, we’re striving all the time to create more chances. We’ve scored again and could have had one or two more.
“It was a mixed bag in terms of having some good bits to take away from the performance today. There’s some bits that need to be better. Sometimes that is us and sometimes that is just the quality of the opposition that you’re playing against. We were playing against a good team who are relentless at home.”
A change in shape and system, lining up with three centre-backs, was hampered by Caleb Okoli’s early departure through injury, while Dawson also referenced the backing from the near-1,800 travelling fans who went home unrewarded after making the journey down to the capital.
He added: “I don’t think when changes happen people think there is a specific reason, it’s just what myself and the staff have discussed this week and thought would be the best way to go in terms of shape and personnel to get a result.
“The players appreciate [the fans'] support; we appreciate their support today. It’s going to be a tough rest of the season and we’re certainly going to need them both at home and away.”
