Emil Riis reflects on scoring twice in victory over Wigan Athletic
The striker played in his part in a 3-0 win at King Power Stadium
City are 11th in the Sky Bet League One following midweek success
We’ll take on Stevenage this Saturday as Riis aims to add to his tally
Wins over Doncaster Rovers, Bromley and now Wigan Athletic have propelled Leicester City into the top half of the third-tier table, with the Danish marksman netting a brace in our latest triumph at King Power Stadium on Tuesday. Showing a striker’s instinct to score the opener from a Will Smallbone corner which was flicked on by Caleb Okoli, the forward took Luke Thomas’ cross in his stride for the second, prior to Bobby De Cordova-Reid’s penalty making it 3-0 to the Foxes.
Speaking after beating the Latics on home soil, Riis referenced how confident he currently feels in front of goal, having now taken his seasonal tally to seven goals across all competitions.
“I think the first one was pretty easy,” he reflected following full-time on Filbert Way. “I probably stole it from Caleb but I’m sure he won’t mind! I could have probably left it but I’m selfish so I took it myself.
“The second one was an unbelievable cross from Thommo so I was in the right place and the delivery was good. I’m happy to get two goals.
“When I get the ball, I shoot. Probably the coaches think I shouldn’t shoot as much of the time, but that’s because I’m confident, I want to score goals and you do that by shooting.
“I want to be up there on the top goalscorer list, but most importantly it helps the team as well, so that’s what I want to do.”

A clean sheet at the other end of the pitch added to the momentum gained, with Stevenage due at King Power Stadium on Saturday (3pm GMT kick-off) in another home fixture in front of the Blue Army. “We had a couple of games where we let too many goals in, so to get a clean sheet is like getting a goal for a striker,” the 28-year-old added. “It means a lot to the defenders.
“It’s three wins out of four now so we’re starting to find a bit of form. Hopefully we can continue this and then climb the table.
“It’s going to be an important game for us and if we can win that then it’ll start to look good, so we need to recover well and be ready.”
