Going into the encounter at Cropston Road on the back of a 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers U18s in Seagrave on Saturday, we were in front just over midway through the first half as Jake Fletcher completed a flowing move in the 29th minute.

The hosts, meanwhile, were level in Charnwood on the brink of half-time, although the young Foxes would be able to reassert their dominance in the second period.

In foggy conditions, City’s youngsters regained the advantage six minutes after the restart through Bismark Owusu, surging forwards from the half-way line before converting confidentially in the box.

David Anugo’s strike, in the 64th minute, and another just two minutes later from captain Fabien Simons, made sure for Leicester, who progress to the second round of the prestigious youth tournament as a result.

Second round fixtures in the FA Youth Cup are set to be played over the weekend of Saturday 21 November, with Nottingham Forest (A) in the U18 Premier League and Everton (H) in the U18 Premier League Cup to contest before then. We’ll bring you information on the draw for the second round when confirmed in the coming weeks.

The details…

XI: Stretton; Simons (c), Toko (Govan 64’), Jacklin, Dignum; Swan, De Lisle (Szembel 64’), Aideed (Turrell 70’); Anugo (Quinn 70’), Owusu, Fletcher (Machaka 80’).

Subs not used: Hibbins, Irene.

Goals: Fletcher 29', Owusu 51', Anugo 64', Simons 66’.
