Missy Goodwin opened the scoring on Filbert Way, before Wieke Kaptein's second-half strike meant the points were shared in a final bout before the winter break; A first-ever point against Chelsea for the Foxes, who became the first side to take anything from the Blues in all competitions this season. Amandine Miquel made five changes to the side that put five past Birmingham City on Wednesday evening, with Janina Leitzig, Asmita Ale, Sari Kees, Sophie Howard and Ruby Mace all coming into the starting XI, while there was space on the bench for Shannon O'Brien following her long-awaited return from injury. Unfortunately, the Foxes were forced into an early change as Deanne Rose, who shined midweek in the Women's League Cup, was replaced by Goodwin 10 minutes in through injury. The first team to take anything off of Chelsea in all competitions.
That change, however, would spark the first goal of the match as Goodwin fired the Foxes in front, latching on to Ale's low cross to the back post, following some fantastic build-up play which started with Howard at the back and included a lovely pass from Hannah Cain. Holding a tight lead at the break, Leicester followed the same game plan in the second half, sitting in a low block, trying to cause Chelsea problems on the break.
With 70 minutes gone, there was a roar around Filbert Way as O'Brien was introduced, making her first appearance since the back end of last season, after suffering a long-term injury.
Sadly for the courageous Foxes, their backline was broken with less than 15 to play, when Kaptein drove forward and sent a powerful effort to the bottom left-hand corner.
A return to action for Shannon O'Brien.
The pressure continued to intensify around the stadium as the WSL champions searched for a winner, throwing everyone at a Leicester defence that had stood tall for so long.
Every catch from Leitzig relieved pressure off Leicester, but none as much as the full-time whistle, that confirmed City's hard-earned point against a side that remain six points clear in the standings.
An early Christmas present, Leicester now take a festive break from their fixture schedule and return to action when they face Stoke City in the Women's FA Cup Fourth Round, at the beginning of January.
