Leicester City confirm Francisco Vieites signing
Goalkeeper is formerly of La Liga outfit Real Betis
He played eight times in last season’s UEFA Conference League
The 26-year-old was most recently with Real Betis having previously turned out for clubs including Bertamiráns, Celta Vigo and CD Lugo in his native Spain.
Francisco said: “It’s a very big step for my career. I’m very happy to join this massive club and I’m eager to start working, meet my colleagues and to try and enjoy the first three points.
“The project is massive. They are doing a great job, the coaches, with a way to play football that I like. It’s like a mix of Spanish football and English football. That’s the way I like to play football.
“I promise that I will give my best every day, every match, and I’m sure we will have fun. The way that I have fun is winning.”
Born in Pontecesures, Francisco started his career with Bertamiráns and made his senior debut aged 15.
In June 2015, he transferred to Celta Vigo, joining the club’s youth system and becoming a regular for Celta Vigo B before moving to Segunda División side CD Lugo the following year.
Francisco later joined Real Betis in July 2022, featuring initially for Betis Deportivo prior to making his La Liga debut against Barcelona in September 2023.
He made 20 appearances for Real Betis, including eight UEFA Conference League games last season as Los Verdiblancos reached the final in Poland, losing out 4-1 to Chelsea.
Francisco now joins his fellow goalkeepers in the squad, who are preparing for our next Sky Bet Championship fixture at Oxford United on Saturday 13 September (12:30pm BST kick-off).
