LCFC Women face Manchester City in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup
Sunday’s fifth round fixture kicks off at 2pm GMT
The Foxes beat Stoke City in the last round of the competition
Ruby Mace previews the cup clash at Joie Stadium
FA Cup weekends bring a different level of meaning to English football, and for young Lioness Mace, that is no different. Returning to a city she knows well, the hard-battling midfielder, who missed out on last weekend’s WSL loss to Everton through suspension, is ready to head out on the pitch and prove a point in the competition. Leicester beat Stoke City in the previous round.
“The FA Cup is always a good competition to come in and fight for your spot,” Mace explained. “The rounds that we’ve had have been so hard and no game is ever easy. We’ll go all out and make sure we have no regrets.
“It’s always good to play your former club because you want to prove a point and show what you can do. I want to put into practice what I’ve learnt at Man City.”
We reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup last season, and although Mace was not part of the squad that achieved that great feat, she is hoping to maintain the underdog mentality that has worked so well in the past for the Club.
Ruby heads north to face her former club.
“It’s a great opportunity, for us as underdogs in the game, to go out and you never know what we can do,” Mace continued.
“We have had some hard times, but we’ve also had to good spells with our defensive record. We’re the only team to take points off Chelsea so that gives us confidence knowing we can go into the game with a winning mentality.”
