Scottish Premiership action saw Henry Cartwright start for Falkirk in their 2-0 win at St. Mirren. It’s now two successive victories and clean sheets for the Bairns who saw off Aberdeen prior to this latest success in Paisley.

The 21-year-old has made 19 appearances during the league campaign.

Two second half goals were the difference on Saturday, with midfielder Cartwright playing 78 minutes before being replaced, as John McGlynn’s side remain in the top half of the table ahead of hosting Martin O’Neill’s Celtic on Wednesday (7:45pm kick-off).

In Sky Bet League 1, Will Alves made his return from injury, playing for the first time since September by coming on as a 69th-minute substitute for Huddersfield Town in a last-gasp 1-0 defeat to Stockport County.

Fifth in the third tier, now three points behind Stockport in fourth, attention turns to the EFL Trophy last-16 tomorrow (Tuesday) night, facing Rotherham United in a 7pm kick-off at Accu Stadium.
