It’s been 358 days since fan favourite O’Brien last netted in a Leicester game, when she scored a brace against Birmingham City, and it was a moment full of emotion for someone who has struggled with injuries in recent years.
However, her first half equaliser, while perfect timing, was not enough to stop the relentless barrage from the Toffees in the second half.
A first goal since injury.
A first goal since injury.
“It’s not good enough, we weren’t at it today,” O’Brien stated. “In the first half we were in it a bit more but in the second half we let it run away from us. Everton deserve the win, so we just have to move on quite quickly.
“We knew their threats and we knew that was the way they were going to play, very transitional and quick on the counter attacks. We expected them to play a lot in behind, but they executed it.
“We need to look back on it now and make sure that doesn’t happen again. We prepped properly for it, but it didn’t work out.”

Her 10th City goal of her career was well received by those in attendance, and the forward admitted it came as a great relief following her absence with injury and hopes that this will put her in good stead for the rest of the campaign.
“It was a great feeling (to score),” the England youth international continued. “And I think it was a long time coming. It’s been a difficult journey but if we’re going to take anything from the day, then I’m happy to score and have a bit of confidence moving forward.”
Manchester City await in the Adobe Women's FA Cup Fifth Round on Sunday (2pm GMT kick-off) and the attacker is looking forward to testing herself against the Citizens this weekend.
She added: “We can carry on from last year, knowing how well we did and take that into this year. It’s a free hit really and it’s a different competition, so we need to pick ourselves up and prepare the same way we always do to try and take the win.”
