Leicester City’s Development Squad defeated Coventry City 3-0 on Friday
The result saw us through to the next stage of the Premier League Cup
Forward Jake Evans reflected on his recent form for the Under-21s
The forward scored in a 3-0 home triumph over Coventry City on Friday evening which saw the young Foxes progress into the knockout stages of the Premier League Cup, with Josh King and Jeremy Monga also among the goals for the side coached by Leon McSweeney. Showing desire from the outset, scoring inside six minutes, the Sky Blues were unable to stem the flow of Leicester chances and Evans felt it was a well-deserved three points, bouncing back from defeat to Sunderland in Premier League 2. Evans has been prolific in front of goal.
“It’s good,” the 16-year-old commented after full-time at LCFC Training Ground. Last week, losing 2-1 and then to get back to winning ways and qualify in the cup, it makes the win even better.
“It was a bit of both – to put in a good performance and make sure that we got through. Before the game, the coach was saying to make sure that we got through and scored goals and that’s what we followed through with.
“We all just stuck to the gameplan, played our own game and we all stuck together, played together and that’s how it should be, week in, week out.”
In goalscoring form himself, with eight to his name already this term, Evans has enjoyed his recent experiences of training with the First Team, as well as learning from the Under-21s coaches.
“To be three in three games is good, it boosts your confidence a lot and hopefully I can take it into the games coming up,” he added. “I’ll hopefully score more goals and get more goal involvements and take my performance to the next level.
“The coaches back me and I’ve formed a good relationship with Leon [McSweeney] and Rainsy (Matt Rains). He coached me when I was younger so it’s good to have a connection with them.
“I set yearly targets and hopefully I can hit them during the season. I’m training with the First Team a lot now and heading in the right direction.”
