I Want To Keep Improving, Says Ayew
Delighted with the start to pre-season, Jordan Ayew remains humble in his workings as his lone goal was enough to warrant Leicester City victory over Zalaegerszegi TE.
Ayew's second half strike was the difference.

  • Leicester City beat Zalaegerszegi TE 1-0 on Saturday evening
  • Jordan Ayew notched the only goal at ZTE Arena
  • The win kickstarted Martí Cifuentes’ career at the Foxes
  • Leicester’s Ghanian forward shared his thoughts at full-time
Talking on the unbeaten record in pre-season, the 33-year-old was keen to state that there is more to come, and that the hard work has only just started, following Martí Cifuentes arrival days prior.
A winning start to life for the new Manager, he has three weeks to fine tune his approach before our Sky Bet Championship opener against Sheffield Wednesday – time that Ayew wants to use wisely.
“So far so good,” he said, summarising our win in Hungary. “We’ve been working really hard since the beginning and trying to implement what he wants to do.

“It’s not perfect yet, but that’s what pre-season is for, and we’ll make sure we’re ready for Sheffield Wednesday.
“Tactically, they were deep and narrow, so it wasn’t easy for us, but we’re going to face this in the Championship; it won’t be easy, so we have to find solutions.
“With time and the Manager’s ideas, we’ll start picking up speed.”
Ayew’s strike in the second half was all that separated the two sides at ZTE Arena, although Leicester’s dominance on the field of play was evident to see.
The former Crystal Palace striker admitted that sometimes a little brute force is needed to get the breakthrough.

Match imagery from our pre-season win against Zalaegerszegi TE at ZTE Arena.
“Sometimes as a striker you need to force your way through and that’s what I tried to do,” the forward continued. “I feel like we don’t sometimes take enough initiative.
“We sometimes play it around the box, but we need to shoot more. Luckily for me today it went in.
“I’m always confident and positive as a player and as a person. Pre-season is for building that but I’m humble, relaxed and I just need to keep working to improve for the season coming.”
Ayew spoke about the influence our new Spanish Manager has had in his first days in charge and looks forward to the learnings still to come as he implements his style on the team.

He added: “We all have a good feeling about him (Cifuentes), but of course it’s only been a couple of days, so we need more time for him to get to know us better and for us to understand his ways.
“That’s why this time is so important to build those bonds and get to know each other. At the moment everything is going to plan, so we want that to continue.
“We’ll keep on working and pushing ourselves hard. The season is only around the corner now, so we need to make sure we are ready for it.”
