LCFC Women beaten 1-0 by Chelsea at the weekend
Aggie Beever-Jones scored the only goal at Kingsmeadow
Rosella Ayane hit the crossbar in the final minutes
Rick Passmoor was delighted with the improvement City have shown
An early goal from Aggie Beever-Jones was the only time either side found the net at Kingsmeadow on Sunday, and while that spelled defeat for the Foxes, the game wasn’t without maximum effort from the travelling side.
Keeping the current Barclays Women’s Super League champions at arm’s length for the full 90, our best opportunity to take something from the capital came in injury-time, when Moroccan international, Rosella Ayane, struck the crossbar from outside the box.
Although resided to defeat, Passmoor was delighted with our passages of play that, on another day, could’ve led to more.
“It was about us stamping our game plan and respecting everyone,” the Interim Manager explained. “Massive credit to ourselves because at times we dominated possession, which is something we haven’t managed to achieve in the first two games.
“We created good opportunities, not only the starting XI, but the full squad and staff gave the travelling supporters something to be proud of.
“The first three games don't define us, but we wanted to see how we play. We’re delighted to come to one of the best teams in world football, and to do what we’ve done.”
Only three games into the season, Passmoor admitted it will take time for the players to understand each other’s movements and style of play, as they get used to a new system on the pitch.
He added: “We’re getting them used to what we want them to do on the pitch and also we (as staff) need to get used to what they want to do on the pitch.
“[It'll take a] few more weeks because we’re working on a new style of play and then it’s about being in and around the box, the final finish and product that we need to look at in more detail.
“We need to understand each other’s movements so that we can push forward into that next step.
“We know the stats, the teams that we play against they don’t give the ball away, and we want to ensure that we improve that detail on the pitch to get the ball and do something with it.”
